Mural Painting: Akalla Youth Centre (2014–2015)

This mural was commissioned by Förorten i Centrum as part of a collaborative community art project at the Akalla Youth Centre (Fritidsgård) in Stockholm. Serving as the Artistic Leader, I guided the creative process and executed the painting alongside five local youths who were frequent visitors to the centre.

The project was deeply rooted in the local community's experiences and stories. The right-hand wall serves as a poignant memorial to a young local footballer whose life was tragically cut short. To give this tribute a sense of timelessness and contemplation, the composition and pose were inspired by Caspar David Friedrich’s Romantic masterpiece, Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer. By placing a modern figure in this iconic, reflective stance, we aimed to elevate the personal tragedy into a broader meditation on loss, memory, and the future of the urban landscape.

The process followed Förorten i Centrum's established methodology, which focuses on empowering citizens to claim their right to public space through collective storytelling and monumental painting. This collaboration turned a blank wall into a shared cultural landmark, reflecting both the grief and the resilience of the Akalla community.
